2004
Entrepreneurial ingenuity
At the youthful age of 14, our founder Ammar Ahmad already had entrepreneurial pursuits. Under the name of Dr. Hair and Beauty Supplies, he set up a small stall at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with an initial investment of $3800 and only 25 products. Unfortunately, due to the entire ordeal went bust.
2005
Pioneering a vision
Ammar exhibited at a Spa and Beauty Expo with the initial investment of $5900. This time, he operated under the name AMR International as the previous name was not taken seriously in the industry. Again, the exhibition was unsuccessful and generated zero return.
2006
Dedication and evolution
Ammar now ventured into the realm of selling salon furniture on eBay, making AMR International a $250k turnover and signing his first commercial lease of a 56sqm premises at 18A Louise Ave, Ingleburn. To sustain rental repayments, Ammar took on a role as a full-time nightshift cleaner.
2007
A challenging overhaul
With only six months into the lease, AMR International doubled its turnover and this boom brought AMR to its next 150sqm unit in the same complex. In an unfortunate event, the complex was burnt down and AMR International suffered a heavy loss as it was under insurance.
2008
Reinventing foundations
AMR International relocated to a new 250sqm facility on 2/79 Williamson Road, Ingleburn and hired its first staff member. Within the first three months of launching, AMR International experience a rapid growth in sales making its first $1 million turnover and an additional four staff members were hired as a result.
2009
Innovative strategies
AMR International began creating its own brands directly from manufacturers straight to salons, aiding in the birth of brands such as Tamara Rose and Dumb Blonde. The amrhair.com.au website was born and generated its first $6.95 selling a can of Sillhouette hairspray. AMR International leased an additional 400sqm bringing the total to 650sqm.
2010
Established with pride
AMR Hair and Beauty Supplies Pty Ltd was officially registered and the company as we know it today was established.
2011
Bloodline and loyalty
AMR set out to open its first flagship store in Penrith at 1/57 Regentville Road, Jamisontown and Ammar asked his sister Maria to head up the store and help him build it. Entreprenuerial spirits run high in the family and Maria was able to pioneer AMR's Penrith store to success in her role as director.
2012
Breaking the boundaries
Ammar started to attend overseas exhibitions and built solid networks with international suppliers. Business was still booming as AMR hit $3 million turnover which required additional space. A 500sqm warehouse in Smeaton Grange was leased as a storage facility. AMR launched Fanola in Australia.
2013
Platform for power players
AMR moves to a 1300sqm facility at 32 Garner Place, Ingleburn with 11 staff members. AMR developed a valuable relationship with the world's largest distributor of hair and beauty products, Nazih Group (Olaplex, Takara Belmont, etc.), who have over 5000 stores in 36 different countries. Ammar traveleled internationally to witness operations that brought AMR to new heights.
2014
Consumerism customised
AMR acquires JAC Manufacturing, the company that produced the label 18 in 1. A change in operations saw growth in the brand and resulted in a deal signed with PRC for the export of the complete range to be sold in 4000 stores across China and Hong Kong. AMR did not see entire success however, the Silverwater store was opened early in the year but due to poor sales and location later had to be closed.
2015
Unconvetional outcome
With the barber industry making a comeback, AMR founded Barner Culture and was awarded exclusivity to the presigious 'El Chapo' and 'Escobar' barber chairs which generated $300K in sales within the first month. AMR attained an additional 1700sqm facility brining the total space to 3300 sqm.
2016
Thriving transformation
AMR undertook a massic rebranding and released 'The All New Collection' catalogue and launced its first blog on the revamped amr.com.au website. The AMR Training Academy started construction and opened its doors to provide customers a space to further their knowledge and skills. Inebrya was released in Australia and a 25 year contract was signed between AMR and Pettenon Cosmetics. AMR and Fanola was launched in the UK through distributors and online. AMR achieved $24 million turnover and does not rely on bank financing.
2017
A milestone to embrace unity
AMR has partnered with CS Logistics to facilitate the next phase of growth which will take our current $150,000 per day target up to $1 million. The partnership adds an extra 10 years of management and logistics solutions that will help improve order accuracy and quicker lead times for our customers. The new 20,000sqm premises located at 5 Inglis Road, Ingleburn will ensure AMR is on track to achieving $50 million turnover. The completion of AMR's first concept store (HQ) will pave way for an additional 12 stores across Australia.
